| “We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we can’t have both. Not at the same time.” – Brene Brown|
I was watching Brene’s new Netflix special “A Call to Courage” recently and was reminded of this amazing quote from her. It perfectly applies to our food and eating too.
If you’re like most women, you might read this quote and think “Oh god, I need to choose courage and resist my cravings instead of choosing comfort and giving it to them.”
Is that the whole truth? Yes and No.
If that was all you needed to do, you’d have found a way to do it already, wouldn’t you? You wouldn’t end up falling off the same wagon, repeating the same mistakes…again and again? After all, you have a successful career and relationships.
Here’s what I see most women truly missing when it comes to their eating –
Courage to HOPE that they can have a happy, normal and easy relationship with food just like “those” men and women they feel jealous of.
Instead, they choose the comfort of somehow surviving and managing food than hoping for a better future.
Courage to BELIEVE that this kind of beautiful freedom, joy and effortless control is possible for them.
Instead, it’s so much easier to blame things on metabolism, genetics, “maybe it’s just not for me” or “can I catch a break”. It’s so much more comforting to feel sorry for ourselves (believe me, I know – I’ve been there, done it).
Courage to DREAM of the life that becomes possible when they get their time, energy and confidence back. What would it feel like to be that powerhouse self again, to be an amazing mom & wife and show up as a strong inspirational leader?
Instead, it’s comforting to not dream at all than to dream and be disappointed again.
We shun courage because being truly courageous requires us to be vulnerable- to dream again, to believe again, to hope again.
And when we refuse to be vulnerable, we remove all the reasons that motivate us to fix food. There is no leverage, no excitement to move us, nothing on the other side.
But when you bravely hope, dream and believe again, a new path opens up.
Imagine feeling powerfully in control of your food destiny instead of like a slave to food…
Imagine ending binge & emotional eating and getting your light and confidence back…
Imagine stepping out of all the routines & coping mechanisms dragging you down and being able to soar freely and joyously without food or eating holding you back…
It’s all possible. I’ve done it. Our clients do it.
The only question is – are YOU choosing Courage or Comfort?
